Semester 2, 2024 Program - and upcoming exhibition, "Water - Go with the Flow"

July 8, 2024
Half way through the year already!

The new program for Semester 2 is now out and full of so many exciting art activities.  Check out the new program here.

And the 20th July will see our second exhibition for the year, "Water - Go with the Flow".

This seemed like an appropriate theme for our next exhibition.  Over the last few months, water has dominated life in the Douglas Shire.  We have seen how the power and immense volume of water can change the path of rivers, gouge deep channels out of hillsides, flood and destroy infrastructure.  But opposed to this, many have been impacted by having little or no water which can make day to day living very difficult.  We don't appreciate ready access to clean water till we don't have it.
Now is a good time to reflect on the enigmatic nature of water - how it is an essential life-giving force; how the sound of water can be calming and meditative; but how it can also be a strong, powerful and sometimes a destructive force of nature.

January 9, 2024
2023 certainly ended with a bang.  The last exhibition for 2023 ('21st Annual Art Show". 18 Nov - 16 Dec 2023) had just come to an end, when Cyclone Jaspar started heading our way.  The flooding that followed was catastrophic for the whole region, and recovery will take many months (and possibly years).  Like most of Mossman's main street, the pottery/glass sheds at DAB suffered from water inundation.  Sam and her wonderful bunch of helpers have done an absolutely incredible job of cleaning u...
