August Feature Wall - "My DAB Journey (so far)" - Sam Matthew

August 2, 2023
The wonderful art work of Sam Matthews (aka "Moo"), a local multimedia artist, is now on display on the Feature Wall at DAB.

Sam is well-known for her mosaic work and has facilitated in several community art projects in the Douglas Shire; including "Life Among the Trees, I and II" on the toilet blocks in Rex Smeal Park, Port Douglas; the RSL Remembrance Hall, Mossman; and the planter boxes along the main street of Mossman.  She is also a very talented potter and in recent years has received many awards at the Cairns Melting Pot biennial pottery exhibitions.

Dominating the Feature Wall is an amazing mosaic entitled "Legacy (Part1) - The Swarm", made entirely out or recycled plastic bottle caps - Sams comment of the amount of waste our modern lifestyle creates and the legacy we leave behind for the generations that follow.   Also on display are many of Sams pottery pieces and her pen, ink and pencil drawings.
