What is Urban Sketching?

Urban sketching is a world-wide community of artists that share the same interest (urbansketchers.org).
This is the manifesto we follow:
• We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
• Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
• Our drawings are a record of time and place.
• We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
• We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
• We support each other and draw together.
• We share our drawings online.
• We show the world, one drawing at a time.

How does it work?

We meet at different locations and sketch with any chosen medium. Every artist has a different style, which we celebrate and encourage. Beginners to advanced - all are welcome! It doesn’t matter if you haven’t picked up a pencil in years. The point is to enjoy sketching and sharing with others.

We sketch outdoors in parks, on corners of streets and in other public spaces. We try to sketch outdoors as much of the year as possible, so appropriate weather gear is needed depending on the season.

Bring your own materials. Optional: sunscreen, a sun hat, a seat, drinking water.

Our events are advertised via DAB email. We meet every second Thursday morning at the specified location at 9.00am and choose our own scene to sketch. People can move about depending on their choice of subject. Usually after 2 hours we meet again to share and take photographs of our work.

Each person is responsible for themselves and their personal property. Choose a safe location and take care of your possessions!

We look forward to seeing you at the next sketch session!
